The partners part is self-explanatory. Four successful, independent consultants with four areas of specialization had a bright idea. Wouldn't it be better if, working together, they could offer clients a team that fulfilled all their business needs at once? After all, fundraising could be informed by management. Management strategies could certainly be informed by organizational development.
Strategy walks hand in hand with public sector funding in the not-for-profit sector.and so on. Working together would be more convenient for their clients (one stop shopping!) and more convenient for the consultants. After all, independent consulting can be lonely work. No one to bounce ideas off of, no one to eat lunch with.
So Rod, Graeme, Doug and Tim came together in 1996 to be the Partners of NetGain Partners. From there it grew to include other associates with other specialties, and junior associates with intellectual and professional ambitions. We constantly bounce ideas off of each other, and we never have to eat lunch alone unless we want to.
When we created the name in 1996, it was ours. But a few years later, Google reveals a smorgasbord of other "net gains" including some guy who wrote a book on it.
